Bali-based vets star in Australian conservation seminar tour

ACCLAIMED Indonesian conservationist and veterinarian, Dr Bayu Wirayudha, the inspiration behind a 13-year project to bring Bali’s national bird – the Bali Starling – back from the brink of extinction, spoke to thousands of Australian-based conservationists and veterinarians during a three-week Dr Bayu and Dr Sari at Australia Zoo Wildlife HospitalAustralian seminar tour last month. Dr Bayu’s Australian tour was funded by The Australian Veterinarian Association and the FNPF. He was accompanied by distinguished Balinese vet Dr Sari Nindhia whose many works include the conservation of the Bali Starlings, volunteer work with the Yudistira Swarga Street Dogs Foundation and as a school volunteer to promote the conservation cause.

Dr Bayu and Dr Sari kicked off their tour at Queensland's Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital where the pair met a koala for the first time and were very impressed by the Wildlife Hospital's state-of-the-art facilities. At the seminar, they met almost 100 veterinarians and passionate wildlife conservationists. Their host was fellow vet, Dr Elaine Cebuliak, who runs a clinic in Brisbane, Queensland.
