WHAT do a monster truck driver, a horticulturalist, an aborist, a mature-aged student, a plumber, a labourer and a retail assistant all have in common?
Firstly, they are all human beings. Secondly, they are all driv ers. Thirdly, they all spent a recent weekend going through their paces at the two-day defensive driving course at Gympie’s Roadcraft Driver Education Centre in south-east Queensland.
Roadcraft trainer, Greg Forward, is a man who speaks from experience. As a freelance cameraman covering road crashes for 20 years, Greg does not sugar-coat his presentations. The gloves are off when it comes to drumming into teenagers and ‘confident’ adult drivers that they can be far safer drivers and really do have a lot to learn. “Even race car drivers aren’t good drivers because in an emergency situation our natural instincts take over.”
